What’s Behind Your Eye?
Cotillion
September 12 - October 04 2007
Cotillion is a collective of emerging contemporary artists; Gayle Anderson, Kevin Gaffney, Frances Hayes & Alan Burns. Formed in 2005, Cotillion has since produced five collaborative exhibitions; most notable All Shook Up as part of Tulca 2006 and The Forest of the Fallen Moon at Broadstone XL in July 2007.
What’s Behind Your Eye? is a sound and video installation that investigates man’s influence on the earth and the environment. The video triptych employs the transient nature of shadows as a means of communicating the history of this conflicting relationship, with each video piece reacting with and informing each other. The accompanying sound samples familiar mechanical devices used in industrial construction juxtaposed with those of game play and creative processes to create a simultaneously grounding and disorientating experience.
By examining the origin of human acts and the subsequent consequences of these Cotillion hope to raise the question of “what’s behind your eye?” i.e. where does the audience place itself in relation to these actions and reactions.
