FutureProof was an exhibition curated by Emer O’Boyle of Parity Studios, UCD and Sheena Barrett, Curator of the LAB Gallery, in 2017. This group exhibition was conceived with a school going audience in mind, particularly considering 13-18 year olds and we worked with our partners at NCCA to develop resources that would support teachers in the classroom context beyond the exhibition’s duration.
Our colleagues in the U.S. supported us in our efforts to support students and teachers to use VTS as a tool to build curiosity around contemporary arts practice in Ireland and to feel more comfortable to discuss this work in the gallery and the classroom. We worked to develop accessible resources for students to scaffold their knowledge about art and artists in a youth centred way. As a result, the LAB Gallery designed an image test set for educators to test Visual Thinking Strategies further in the classroom, as well as a series of conversations between artists of the show and young people.
