Ballyfermot Creative Hub

After many years of supporting the delivery of high-quality Arts experiences for children and families in Ballyfermot Library. The CAL Programme began the Creative Hub Initiative in partnership with Ballyfermot Library in 2017.

Creative Hubs  seek to sustain high quality arts experiences for children, schools and families to access in their Library and locality, through the development of enhanced educational, community and cultural partnership.

Via ongoing consultation with local schools and stakeholders,  The Ballyfermot Creative Hub has delivered the following programmes since 2017:

  • Early Years Music and Visual Arts Programmes (2017)
  • Performances of Granuaile, the Pirate Queen for local Primary Schools. (2017)

  • Introduction to Dance workshops (2017)
  • Drama Programme: (2018)
    Local Primary School Children from four different schools attended a production of Half-Light by Bombinate Theatre Company in Familibase, Ballyfermot.
    Children participated in a four week drama programme in Ballyfermot Library which actively explored the many themes and ideas present in the play.

  

  • Dance Programme: 2018- 2019

​Working with Choreographer Maria Nilsson Waller, musicians from CDETB Music Centre Kylemore College and other skilled artists and dancers, children from 4 schools experienced the following:

  • Attending a contemporary dance performance Flora and Fauna in the  Library.
  • Participation in a ten-week dance programme in Ballyfemot library with an experienced children’s choreographer that encouraged children to explore the art form of dance in response to a range of different stimuli and musical accompaniment.
  • An opportunity to create their own dance performance The Forest and perform it locally in the Ballyfermot Civic Centre accompanied by professional dancers.

The on-going development of the Ballyfermot Creative Hub is actively supported by an Advisory Group that includes the following local Organisations:

Familibase, Local Schools, Ballyfermot Library, Dublin City Council’s Library Development Section, Dublin City Council’s Community Department, Ballyfermot Partnership and the Arts Office of Dublin City Council.
