Introduction to the History of Arabic Calligraphy Workshop, Facilitated by Artist Diaa Lagan

Participants will be introduced to the practice of calligraphy, through its different scripts, and to the concept of decorative writing. They will learn how to pronounce some of the Arabic letters, and be invited to practice the techniques of forming letters and shaping a calligraphic design using a bamboo quill and tracing paper, then tracing a calligraphy design.
All materials will be provided for the workshop on the day.

Join visual artists Diaa Lagan and Elaine Grainger, as they take you on an exhibition walkthrough of our latest exhibitions Shahid and HOLDING ON lightly.
Shahid is a collaborative mixed-media exhibition by artists Basil Al-Rawi and Diaa Lagan addressing themes of displacement, migration, identity and memory.
HOLDING ON lightly is an exhibition in the Cube space by Elaine Grainger, in which the artist will slowly transform the exhibition space, with a series of movements of objects and materials. For Culture Night, the audience will have the opportunity to experience the alteration of the space by the artist.
The gallery is open all day from 10am and will remain open until 8pm.
