But Never Mind
Hannah Mooney
June 20 - July 31 2014
But Never Mind is the most recent iteration of Hannah Mooney's continuing experimentation with split screen video, an approach that she describes as allowing 'instantaneous burps' of unrelated imagery to collide and spark new modes dialogue.Clichéd imagery recalls sentimentalised 1970s nature posters or stock video photography, offering brief yet unexpectedly emotive pairs of images, insistently prodding the viewing to wonder at their hidden meaning, the truth beyond the blatant significance.
Mooney plays with her deep sense of self and the inadequacies and doubts that haunt us all. Rather than pose philosophical questions, she worries at everyday platitudes employed to define the modern condition.
