In conversation event with artist Fergus Martin and Sarah McAuliffe

About the artist
Fergus Martin is an Irish painter, sculptor and photographer, known for his post-minimlaist aesthetic.  His most recent solo exhibitions were Space – new prints - at Green On Red Gallery , Dublin and Formal and Wild - Landscapes at Palazzo Birago, Turin, Italy, in Dublin. Also in 2025, he took part in the group exhibitions CAIM at Slane Castle, curated by Jenn Ellis and Matilda Liu, and Factory Made at Green On Red Gallery, Dublin.

In 2020 Martin’s sculpture, Oak, was installed at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, a gift from the Irish Government to the court; a new permanent sculpture, Barrel was installed in the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. Also in 2020, his large-scale photograph, Chair, was purchased by the National Gallery of Ireland.

Martin is a member of Aosdana and is represented by Green On Red Gallery, Dublin.

Sarah McAuliffe
Sarah McAuliffe is curator of Irish art post 1900 at the National Gallery of Ireland. She is responsible for the display, acquisition and interpretation of the National Gallery’s Irish collection, specifically as it relates to work produced after 1900. Her research interests include the development of modernism in Ireland, photography, socially engaged art practices and the work of women artists. Between 2018 and 2021 she carried out a Curatorial Fellowship at the National photography for the Gallery. At the National Gallery, she has co-curated and curated a number of exhibitions including, Visual Poetry: The photography of John Minihan (2026), Moment in Time: A Legacy of Photographs/ Works from the Bank of America Collection (2020), View of Ireland: Collecting Photography (2019/2020), and Picturing People (2021). Previously, Sarah was the Curator of the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts. She worked as a guest lecturer in the History of Art Department at University College Cork between 2018 and 2022.
