Motti Ruimy + Paul Kearns, 2014

Temporary Location: Collins Barracks

Beyond Pebbledash included an installation, a book and an engagement programme, which aimed to promote conversation on the future challenges and opportunities of Dublin for city centre living. The project was a partnership between Dublin City Council, Redrawing Dublin and the National Museum of Ireland. The engagement programme was funded by The Arts Council under their Engagement with Architecture Programme.

The installation in the courtyard of Collins Barracks took the form of a ‘typical’ Dublin pebble-dash house which included a pebble-dash façade with steel skeletal frame to replicate its walls, stairs, internal doors, rear fenestration, chimney and roof. The book gave voice to the project through the text and images – focusing on the subject of living in the city. The Urban Party, a key element of the Engagement Programme brought together a myriad of speakers to give voice to different experiences and views on the subject of House and Home - Living in the City. The Engaging with Architecture Programme had as a central focus a series of workshops, led by architects and artists, which are designed to offer young people an opportunity to consider the topic of living in the city and how we can better plan and design for the future of your cities.
