Art, Tech and the City: Hands-On Futures and Smart City Conversations

The LAB Gallery

Thursday 29 May 2025

Dublin City Council Arts Office and Lab Gallery, in collaboration with Smart Dublin, presents Art, Tech and the City. Curated by Jo Mangan, Artistic Director, The Performance Corporation Director, the event invites artists, technologists, and the curious public to explore how emerging technologies are transforming the creative and civic landscape of Dublin.

The afternoon opens with a hands-on showcase of creative tools, followed by a panel conversation and short presentations. Visitors can explore interactive demos featuring spatial and binaural audio, generative AI, and immersive experiences across Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality from a range of featured artists and collaborators.  This ‘Lunch and Learn’ opportunity will showcase some of the most powerful features of these technologies for storytelling and creativity. The focus is on the imaginative, practical, and playful uses of technology.

The panel brings together artists, creative technologists, and Smart Cities thinkers to reflect on the evolving role of tech in both the arts and public life: how technology is being used not only to shape infrastructure through digital twins (2D or 3D digital representations of a physical space), data and design but also to generate new forms of storytelling, public engagement and co-creation. With themes ranging from the emotional limits of AI to how XR can bring the unseen into view, the session holds space for both practical insights and imaginative speculation.

This is a space for trying things out, making connections, and asking what the city of the future could be and who gets to help shape it.

Free but ticketed, registration essential.

Light lunch provided at the beginning of the event.
